The Ocean Cleanup Reveals Their First Interceptor In Cengkareng Drain

The Ocean Cleanup has Revealed that the first interceptor to be placed in a dirty river Interceptor 001 has been placed in the Cengkareng drain filtering plastics floating in the rivers. Letting the flow of the river guide plastics and other debris floating in the river guided to the mouth of the interceptor where it will be lifted using a conveyer belt into giant bags that collect waste. This interceptor was specifically designed for our waterways and could potentially clean 13 other rivers in Indonesia.

Along with this reveal, The Indonesian Government has recommitted to its plan to reduce more than 75% of plastics being littered by 2025, which will be aided by Danone and the Dutch Government.

It is hoped with this Indonesia shall be able to manage its waste successfully eliminating most of the litter that ends up in the environment through responsible recycling programs and also composting.
